The Answer
How does a video resume and job hunting equal a winning combination? Before you create one, you need a firm understanding of what you want. You need to know your audience, and you need to know how to sell yourself. A resume won’t sell itself, you need to stand out from other candidates who have resumes with same or better credentials. A video resume is a great tool, to help you stand out. Did you know hiring managers spend only 7 seconds to look at your resume? That does not leave a lot of time to make a great impression. With a video, it’ll give you more face time, and be heard. The video will give you more color and more dimension with the information popping out to the recruiter, than a regular piece of paper. A video resume will come alive as you present yourself to the hiring manger where they can hear and see you. A regular piece of paper won’t do that. What’s even better, is to have a video production company to create it for you so all you have to do is focus on what you need to say in presenting yourself.
Here are two examples of videos we created. One chose a direction of targeting a specific company, another specified the industry. Both chose a different path, but common approach which was to tailor their pitch to their appropriate audience.
Last Thursday (March 31st) I had the pleasure to speak to the student members of NABA at Bentley University to talk about this very subject, and we even filmed a few for them to experience it themselves like the one below. Click here to more video resumes. – RL
